* WHAT...Heavy snow with total snow accumulations 3 to 5 feet above 6,000 feet with 5 to 7 feet over the highest elevations and 1 to 2 feet down to 4,000 feet. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph. * WHERE...A portion of central California. * WHEN...Until 10 PM PST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Strong winds could cause tree damage. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow levels will begin at 5,500 to 6,000 feet on Sunday night and lower to 4,000 feet Tuesday morning. Light snow accumulations down to 3,000 feet Tuesday night into Wednesday. Information: If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Details:
At 540 PM PST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 19 miles northeast of Clovis, moving northeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Huntington Lake, Shaver Lake, Mountain Rest, Auberry, Fancher Creek, Hurley, Tamarack Summit, and Shaver Lake 3ne. Information: If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Conditions are favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel clouds. This type of funnel cloud is harmless, but on rare occasions they can briefly touch down, producing wind gusts over 50 mph. If a funnel cloud is spotted move indoors and report your sighting to the National Weather Service. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. |
